The General Assembly of Cycoldia is the unicameral legislature of the Grand Republic of Cycoldia as well as the Cycoldian Imperium. It was created on 5 May 2019 by the original constitution. It operates over the House of Lords, as the superceding chamber, thus making the House of Lords act more as a subcommittee than a full legislative body, as the General Assembly is the sole body responsible for enacting legislation.

History

On 7 May 2019, only two days after the elections for the 1st General Assembly, Cycoldia formally joined the United Imperial Empire under a separate created entity named the "Archduchy of Texas", in which they had sovereign operation over much of Cycoldia's foreign and domestic affairs. This however ended only 14 days later when Charles II of the United Imperial Empire formally demanded that the General Assembly repeal the existing Constitution in favour of a new proposed constitution, named the Cannon Law of Texas. After the General Assembly had rejected the Cannon Law of Texas once in a vote, Charles II demanded that Cycoldia pass it a second time or he would take executive action against the General Assembly. In response to this, the First General Assembly declared open sessession from the United Imperial Empire, this sessession being backed by both Christina I & II as well as a second archduchy within the United Imperial Empire. This was successful, as the United Imperial Empire formally conceeded to full independence, and the short two week rule came quickly to a close.

Composition

The General Assembly currently has a Monarchist Party supermajority of 67% of the legislature with Brandon Mierzwa and the Unitary Party coalitioning with them. The current speaker of the General Assembly is Christina I & II, the leader of the Monarchist Party, and the Prime Minister is Kevon Burnett.

Footnotes
  1. The Cycoldian government is structured that the House of Lords is "subordinate" to the General Assembly, rather than being a separate house, and therefore it constitutionally is stated as "unicameral", despite there being two legislatures.
  2. Brandon Mierzwa is a registered independent, but is a part of the Monarchist Coalition.
