Creation of the DoveArchives

Introduction

The story of the DoveArchives begins on the 22nd of February 2022. This was when the site that is to become the DoveArchives was created under the name TheSohnlandWiki, under the wiki.thesohnlandgov.info website domain; now defunct and replaced. The creation of this site has its origins in the Black February event, more colloquially and more popularly known as Black January. The DoveArchives began as merely a way to get articles about the Republic of The Sohnland off MicroWiki due to the backlash the site recieved from the activist group MicroWiki For Justice due to matters not to be discussed or mentioned on the DoveArchives.

Why the DoveArchives was created

The creator of the DoveArchives, Ethan S. had heard of many critiques, constructive and deconstructive about MicroWiki and its administration. Most notably he was persuaded to get off MicroWiki due to a lack of ownership and control over created articles and allegations about the MicroWiki administration that were perpetuated by MicroWiki For Justice. It became number one priority to get off site and to drop any official endorsements of MicroWiki by the Sohnlandic government. Another reason as to why The Sohnland abandoned editing its own articles on MicroWiki was due to erroneous edits made by certain editors on the site that often broke code and got facts about The Sohnland completely wrong.

Why the DoveArchives purpose changed

Upon finding that a few micronations have been moving their articles from MicroWiki to the DoveArchives and cited their reasons why, and due to outside pressure. The DoveArchives rebranded from TheSohnlandWiki on the 6th of June, 2022 and had changed its goals and objectives. The Site altered its policies to allow all micronational related content to be posted on the site. The DoveArchives also gave more rights to editors, giving them more freedom and ownership over articles they had made; Allowing users to delete articles and made the manual of style optional. Editors can also request page protections without reason, unlike on MicroWiki.

Quoting the DoveArchives founder

"It fills me with great pleasure and gratitude to know that the site I originally only intended for personal use has become a site for all. I know it has helped some take back control over their articles and their say about their own micronations. I recall accounts of many saying creating a wiki site to get off MicroWiki was impossible on account of how complicated it would be to pull off such a feat; I went, and I did it anyway.

Our goal at the DoveArchives and for me personally was never to 'replace MicroWiki' but rather simply to be a freer alternative for those who don't subscribe to MicroWiki or its community. There's no set goal for how many editors or articles we accumulate or how to rival MicroWiki. What truly matters is just giving people a choice on where they trust the information about their micronations to be withheld. Whether we do so or not, whether we have 30 editors, or even 30,000 editors. Let the people decide." - Ethan S.
