The Republic of Vinland, more commonly known as Vinland, is a micronation located on the US eastern coast, and founded on the 12th December 2022 by Alaixaiy Braus. It's Capital City is the city of Ceaburg.

Etymology

The name Vinland comes from the northern name of Vinland. It was used by the Danish explorers of the 10th century A.D to designate a land beyond the ocean they discovered (now known as Greenland) and which was at this time a symbol of hope and freedom for the Norsemen.

The use of this name was decided by the Prime Minister and former Prince of Vinland in order to reflect this ideal that Vinland tries to represent.

History

The Republic of Vinland was founded on December 12th 2022, by Alaixaiy Braus, under the name of the Chancellery of Ceaburg. Since this date the Republic of Vinland went under several political systems and changes, the main one being the decision to change the name from Ceaburg to Vinland, until the adoption of the current system on September 20th 2023 via the proclamation of the September Constitution by Alaixaiy Braus. Since its foundation the Republic of Vinland have been hard working into developing its Diplomatic Relationships, one of the biggest milestone of this work is the entry of Vinland within the EACO.

The political regime of the Republic of Vinland is a Unitary semi-presidential Republic. The Legislative power is held by the National Congress of Vinland, a unicameral legislative body, while the Executive Power is held by the President, and the Judiciary Power is handled by the Attorney General. Due to the recent abolition of the One-Parti system in Vinland, there is currently only one active political parti, which is the President's parti: the Vinland United Forward (VUF).

However as the 2024 Legislative elections for the first legislature of the Congress get closer, the Government of Vinland engaged in massive efforts to promote democracy and engage the citizens to get involved in the political process.

The Government of the Republic of Vinland is divided into five ministries also referred to as the Politburo, each of which has a variety of departments focusing on more specific aspects of Vinland's development and functioning.

Foreign relations

Vinland is a pacifist state, advocating for peace and diplomacy. It does not have any standing army, nor does it have ongoing conflicts with neither micro nor macro nations. Despite several attempts, no state at the United Nations recognized Vinland so far. Vinland also have signed several treaties of mutual recognition, friendship and cooperation with other micronations, and is a permanent member of the EACO, with the particularity of being the only transcontinental state of the Organization, and is therefore sieging at both regional Cooperation Councils.

Law Enforcement and military

The National Police of Vinland is the main Law Enforcement agency of the Republic of Vinland and is placed under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Internal Security. The National police maintain several specialized units for specific tasks, however its activities are currently restrained due to the absence of physical territory.

Its cyber department is aimed toward the protection of the nation's discord server and web pages.

Due to its small size, the Republic of Vinland does not maintain a permanent armed force and relies instead on the surrounding macro-nations to ensure its protection and territorial integrity. The judicial system is supervised by the Attorney General, who is directly appointed by the Congress.

Economy

The Vinnish economy is practically inexistant at this time, however the several ideas are under the study by the State conglomerate NorVin Group. These ideas include the production and sell of merchandising, the sell of services, especially in finance with the Bank of Vinland. The Bank of Vinland also suggested the creation of a special banknote to commemorate the creation of the Republic of Vinland on December 12th.

Culture

The Vinnish culture takes its sources in the European cultures, especially French, and English as 55% of the citizens originate from these two countries, however an important inspiration is also taken from Slavic and Baltic cultures, which can be feel especially in the developing Vinnish language. Despite being quite new the Republic of Vinland does have a defined culture and a large diaspora around the world present on 3 continents. For matters of coordination, Vinland uses the Gregorian calendar as well as the surrounding micronations. However the national holidays are specifics to Vinland. Moreover, the government started to engage in the development of a Vinnish identity in the framework of the Vinnish government plan.

The Republic of Vinland is also working on deciding a national dish, animal, in order to create a feeling of unity among the citizens. To reinforce this feeling of unity especially among the members of the Diaspora, the Government created the "Diaspora day" when the citizens living abroad are encouraged to celebrate the Vinnish culture.

In order to enforce the feeling of a national and cultural identity, the Diaspora Day was set up to celebrate the members of the Vinnish Diaspora. During this day, the Vinnish citizen are encouraged to display the national flag, cook the national dish, and play the national anthem.

Climate

Metropolis (City)

Due to its proximity with the Atlantic Ocean, the Metropolis territory's climate change very often, but it's a moisty environment, with warm temperatures in summer (often above 32ºC), and very cold winters (usually around 0ºC). The Republic also caracterizes itself by a an alternance of sunny and rainy periods, even though the longest rainy period don't last for more than a week (3 to 4 days on average).
