The Rio Grande Republic or RGR for short, is a self declared country located in South Texas that was established on October 9, 2023

Etymology

The name "Rio Grande Republic" comes from the name of the Rio Grande River, which flows adjacent to the nation.

History

Early roots in "The Republic of Sunaoro" (2019-2021)

Although the country has only appeared recently, it has its roots in a former "micronation" called the Republic of Sunaoro, which was founded by President Sanchez some time in 2020. This micronation however, unlike its successor, was not as serious a project and was short lived, having multiple phases before being ultimately dissolved. This micronation lacked stability and went through three different republics from 2019-2021.

At two brief different periods in this early project's history (Circa 2021) It was under the control of two different micronations. At one point the country joined another micronation known as the Democratic People's Republic of Vanceonia. This nation was located in the Southern US and the State of Georgia. The annexation of Sunaoro allowed Vanceonia to have a presence in Texas. This also meant that Sunaoro now solely existed as a province under the rule of a communist state. This was short lived and Sunaoro soon ended up seceding and becaming a sovereign state again.

At another point in the same time period, Sunaoro would join the People's Republic of Adonia. From the territory of Sunaoro, the Adonian government established a new province called "the Rio Grande Commune." This commune had a flag featuring three vertical bands; (black, white and red) and a red scorpion in the middle. This province was even shorter lived as it was dissolved about only 48 hours later when the Republic of Sunaoro informally but ultimately declared its independence, marking the end of foreign and communist rule in the country forever.

Politics and government

As of now, the nation is not run by any political party, nor are there any recognized parties. The country is currently a dictatorship, with the president holding all power in the government. There has yet to be any official branches established or local elections taking place

Law and order

The Rio Grande Republic does not have a police force as of yet, so order is maintained by the Republic's troops

Foreign relations

The Rio Grande Republic currently has friendly relations with the Sohnland, the Republic of Libertalia and the Grand Order of DR.

Geography and climate

The mouth of the Rio Grande River where it meets the Gulf of Mexico.

The Rio Grande Republic is situated on the Texas border with the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. It enjoys a warm subtropical climate with temperatures usually reaching around 90° Fahrenheit. (32° Celsius)

Economy

As of now the nation is closed off from the rest of the world, with no trade occurring with outside nations.

The government has yet to release the nation's own official currency. All transactions within the Republic are made with United States Dollars.

Culture and media

The Rio Grande Republic has a dominant Mexican culture, with 100% of the population being Mexican or of Mexican descent. However American culture is also present with citizens consuming American culture and entertainment

Religion

Being 100% Catholic, all of the nation's inhabitants practice the Christian faith. Walking around the nation's gardens you can find monuments to figures such as San Judas Tadeo or the Virgin Mary. A Rio Grandense household is typically going to have this same religious imagery as well as crosses on the walls and candles with saints on them.

Sports

Sports are popular in the Rio Grande Republic with the two most popular sports being American Football and Boxing. Citizens of the country love viewing the NFL and the Super Bowl the most. With family gatherings dedicated to watching the game often being hosted on Sundays. The majority of the nation roots for the Dallas Cowboys. Citizens also enjoy viewing Boxing matches and UFC fights on television. Soccer has a small following in the nation as well, with citizens rooting for C.D. Guadalajara or "las Chivas" but the population has shifted towards favoring Football.

Music

Mexican and American music are both enjoyed within the Republic. Citizens commonly listen to genres such as regional mexican, rap, hiphop and rock.
