At the DoveArchives, we reserve the right to delete your articles without providing an explanation at any time. Although you may be given one. We won't give you vague answers. We will delete articles if they violate laws or at the request of article authors or those closely affiliated with the subject of the article. We will not ever delete articles if they don't abide to the DoveArchives:Manual of style. The DoveArchives does not officially endorse the content uploaded by its users so we will not delete articles. However, articles may be changed or removed at the request of the the Sohnlandic government.
The DoveArchives deletion policy describes therefore how, and especially which, articles and files that do not meet the content criteria for the wiki are identified and removed.
We do not have any standard of quality required for articles and articles won't be deleted if it has been judged to be poor quality. They may be edited and improved to at least make it readable. However, you can page protect your own articles as long as you are the author.
When it comes to deleting articles, just note that they can be recovered. There is no need to blank pages, just notify one of our administrators.
Process
There are two methods of deleting articles, even articles that aren't yours. You can either notify a site administrator directly or by placing a {{Deletion}} template on an article. If you are making it aware to us that someone elses article needs to be deleted, you will need to cite a good reason, not because you have a vendetta against them. Please cite reasons according to site policy.
Criteria for deletion
An article can be speedily deleted only if it falls under one of the criteria listed below. If there is any possible doubt as to whether or not a page should be speedily deleted, then the page should be listed under one of the other deletion processes.
Vandalism
Edits made with malicious intent, with the inclination to obstruct article development.
Test pages
Test pages should remain in your user sandbox only. Do not create actual articles with the obvious intention of experimenting with features.
Redlink saviours
These are creating blank or mostly empty pages just so a red link on another page will look nicer as blue. This clutters the site and makes it annoying for casual readers. Editing can also get messy.
Attack pages
Don't create pages with the sole intention of harrassing others with vitriol. Simple as.
Copied Wikipedia articles
If you want to link to a Wikipedia article, do not create exact copies of them from other sites. Either edit and rework them or use [[w:Example Article|Example name]] to link to Wikipedia pages.
Unquestionable copyright infringements
These should be speedily deleted only if
- The article is without question, copied from another site.
- The article with its whole history, excluding tag inclusions and minor edits, contains only copyright violation material, and
- The editor of the content does not know or show that the content was copied with permission nor claims fair dealing.
Redirects
Redirect pages that become orphaned and redundant will be deleted.
Emergency actions
Administrators can speedily delete pages temporarily in response to potential legal problems or exceptional controversy.
Images
- Corrupted or empty images
- Redundant images that have another copy that is of the same or better copy and of the same image file format.
- Unused images.
Pages
- User sub pages can be speedily deleted upon request from the user whose user space the page lies under.
- When there is a user page or user talk page and no user to match these pages.
Procedure for admins
Site administrators ultimately decides what should be deleted and what should not be. Authors of articles however, will always have a say when it comes to their own articles when they are up for question of judgement. To avoid outright deletion of articles, try to compromise and edit articles so they do not violate our policy. Authors may be allowed to provided the code for their articles if they wish to migrate to another wiki site.
Restoring a deleted article
If you think your article(s) were unfairly deleted you can challenge the decision so long as you cite DA policy and a genuine reason. No, turning on the water works and getting in a tirade is not a valid reason.
